Robyn, I couldn't tell you how many times my husband has asked me if anything is crawling on his leg, foot, shoulder, etc.. In the beginning of the RSD, my husband thought he was losing his mind because he would feel something, but nothing was there. I finally got him an answer to that problem and what is happening and since he shrugs his shoulders and says, "the bugs are crawling again". We try to laugh our way through the RSD and its many different irritations.
Do you suffer with muscle cramps often or does anyone else? My husbands toes are actually curling in on themselves on his right foot.

Michelle,
My name is Therese. I've had RSD for almost 10 years now. Definitely not
a fun thing, as I'm sure you know by now. Your husband sounds like a
very brave person. And it sounds like he has a great support system and
friendship with you! I know the feeling. My husband Joe is the BEST! I
love him so much and could never get through this without him. I
understand the cramp thing. It gets really difficult sometimes. I find
that the best thing is to take deep breaths and try to relax the area
having them as much as possible. .I really understand the itching thing
too. So many times I'd look to see what was there and it was nothing.
Good luck and welcome to the group. Everyone here is great. Robyn's the
best!
Love,
Therese

Hi guys!!
I've been keeping up with all your messages, but haven't been able to
get on for a while. I'm seeing a lot of "oh, I know just what they mean"
moments! This one hit home BIG time. This is the EXACT same thing that
happens to my feet. I also have to wear 2 pair of socks to bed at night,
but then my feet hurt having that much material on them!
I'll write more again later. Just had to let you know how this one hit me!
Thanks!
Love,
Therese

Hi Everyone,
It is time for our weekly Discussion and I would like to discuss how RSD affects your temperature. In my experience with RSD, I remember noticing my hands were extremely cold and clammy pretty early on. Even before the doctors realized that what I had was RSD. I would go for my appointments to check on my progress and the doctor was as confused as I was. My hands would turn colors too, purple and red. When I wasn't cold trying to get warm I would sweat uncontrollably. I joke with my husband all the time that my thermometer is broken. This isn't so far from the truth. The sympathetic nervous system regulates our body temperature, but having RSD affects it and keeps it from working as it normally would. Now, my hands still turn colors occasionally and my hands and feet will either get real cold and clammy or get very hot and dry. There doesn't seem to be an in between. I am either cold and can't get warm or hot and can't cool off. Does this sound familiar to you too? I would love to here your experiences with temperature changes. You can add any comments or personal experiences to this post.

Robyn,
That definitely sounds familiar! My feet are the same way that you're
saying your hands are. I wear socks to bed then take them off then put
them on....
I go through stages where I sweat profusely for no reason too. It really
does feel like the thermometer has to be broken yet we keep taking it. I
know just what you mean.!

When I first got RSD, before the dx even, at the same time my foot and leg were turning funky purple and freezing cold, I ran a low grade fever. The cause, RSD was doing that!!
Now almost 2 years later, both legs have been purply and freezing cold most of the time. If I manage to get my feet warm, they will turn lukewarm and sweat. The only time the color change goes away is when I walk or put my legs up. I have a hard time at night too because my temp changes then and I usually end up sweating while trying to sleep. Usually only sweat from the waist down which is where my RSD is too.
Love and Hugs,
Karen J

Hi Karen,
I go through the color change alot during and after a shower?? Sometimes other times too. I have the sweating too usually from the chest up but not under my arms it is really strange! I am either cold, freezing or sweating like I ran a marathon.Sound familiar, and when it is at it's worst I have tremors along with it.It is a mess isn't it.

Quite a mess from my perspective and most likely many others as well. *sigh* It's the little things that really bug the crap out of me!! LOL
I've noticed that after a hot bath or shower that my feet and legs will look a deeper, darker color than any other time. If I sit for a long time with my legs down, it'll get to be a deeper color too. It's disturbing to see the color, but yet, I'm so used to it now I don't take much notice of it unless someone else does. I keep an eye on myself only to make sure it stays the same, doesn't worsen and watch out for the spontaneous sores that pop up and monitor to make sure they heal eventually and don't get really bad.
Most times I am too cold, too hot, and rarely just comfortable!! Our bodies are just really whacked!!
Love and Hugs,
Karen J

I've also had the changes in color and temp in my hand one minute it'll feel like its on fire and the next its cold as ice . If its really cold outside and I'm out my hand will hurt sooooooooo bad almost like a frost bite but I have also noticed here lately that if I run even warm water over them its an instant hurt .As far as the color goes sometimes my hand looks like its striped and splotchy .

I had almost forgotten that one Glenda. My feet being so cold all the time, when I get in a hot bath, my feet will start to hurt so bad!! It's like having minor frostbite or something and having someone dethaw your body part all at once!

My husband suffers with the broken inner thermometer . His right foot stays ice cold now, what a wake up call in the middle of the night lol, his left foot is cold and now his arms and hands are starting the back an forth affect of cold and warm. At night he seems to run a fever and sweats even when he is cold. Him and I finally have come to realize this is part of the RSD. He has even shaved his hair off because he sweats so badly. In the beginning his right foot and leg would sweat only on the foot and the shin, but yet it would be cold. His right foot stays a constant shade of purple now. His left foot goes stark white off and on. The doctors he was seeing and are seeing now just say it is part of the RSD, but no in depth explaination. Thanks to you Robyn, I can now explain to my husband what is happening. Thank you.

Hi Michelle,
You are right all of the symptoms and changes are a part of RSD. I know how uncomfortable it can be. These are all signs that the sympathetic nervous system isn't regulating things the right way. It would be nice if doctors realized that we need to know what is happening with our bodies as much as they do.Itching can happen too. It feels like bugs are crawling on you. I don't know if this is happening to your husband or not, everyone of us responds different.

Robyn
