Dear parents and children: Our names are Laura Renfro and Dennis Lazor and we are the parents of Tess who is a wonderful eleven- year-old. Tess was diagnosed with RSD at the age of eight-years-old. RSDSA has agreed to help us with an exciting project and is forwarding this letter to you on our behalf. We thank them for their help and hope you will continue reading this letter. We, like many parents wanted all the information we could get our hands on when Tess was diagnosed with RSD. As you know, getting information about pediatric RSD is difficult at best. We had a hard time finding any information that wasn't frightening, discouraging, or overwhelming. Rarely did we find anything hopeful. We are planning to address this issue with our project and hope to reduce the sense of isolation felt by children and their families. In the fall of 2006, we are raising money for this project with a "backyard carnival" in our community of West Hartford, CT. Funding from the carnival will be used to print and distribute "A Book of Hope" which we are distributing to pediatric pain specialists and clinics throughout the country. Our goal is that the book will provide hope and some comfort to newly diagnosed children and their families. Here's where your help is needed. We are looking for submissions to include in the book. Stories, poems, journal entries, or pictures of hope and encouragement are all welcomed. The only criteria we are asking is that your piece be hopeful and encouraging. We will only edit for grammatical content. We hope to use virtually all the entries we receive. If you participate, and we hope that you will, you will receive a copy of "A Book of Hope" of your own. Submissions can be sent via email to lmr.hope@yahoo.com . Please write "A Book of Hope" in the subject line. Please contact us at that email if you need to send us a hard copy of your submission. We urge you to consider sending us your words of encouragement, hope, understanding, compassion, empathy and joy so that others can benefit from your experiences. Undoubtedly, "A Book of Hope" will touch the lives of many. Thank you in advance for getting involved and in helping others. Fondly, Laura Renfro and Dennis Lazor
