Hi everybody,
This week I thought we could discuss a subject which alot of us have dealt with, are dealing with, or could be in the future, applying for Social Security disability. This can be a really tough decision and I personally have not had to go down this road yet, but seeing how things have gone for me over the last four years it is a distinct possibility that I could be in the future. From what I have heard there are two ways to go. One is to apply on your own and the other is to apply with a lawyer working in your behalf. This is something that has to be thought through and is purely a personal decision of how you want to approach it. I have heard that most of the time you are denied the first try so please don't give up! I have even heard of them doing that a few times to people, but the key is persistance. If we are unable to work we have no choice but to be persistant. These are some sites which might be helpful!

Hi Robyn,

A very close friend of mine works for SSI. She is the person who determines if some one is eligible to get SSI. She told me that the key is to make sure your doctor writes a good reports showing your disablities. She also said that it is true that you may be turned down when you first apply, but if that happens you should keep trying. And don't give up. I hope this helps. I myself are going to apply in June. You should also start to apply 1 year after injury. It doesn't have to be 1 year after the diagnoses for RSD. Just when the injury happened.
To painfree days
Terry

I just noticed this post on Social Security, I don't know if you seen my from yesterday. Well I applied almost two years ago, and have been out of work for almost 4 years. I wasn't aware at my age to even apply - didn't think it was forever at first. I have been denied twice, with 3 different doctors notes saying I am completely disabled. It states too many meds, RSDS, severe nerve damage, blood pressure problems, unable to stand or sit for long periods of time, I have had to get glasses (from always being 20/20), I suffer from seizures in my spine, but still they denied me. The only doctor or place they sent me too was a psy. doctor for mental evaluation, because I also suffer from major depression (as I am sure alot of you also do). My opinion is, it is all about age. I am too young to consider being disabled for the rest of my life! Like they can be a judge on that matter. They said I would have a court hearing within 12 months of my last denial, well it has been longer and now all they can say is that they are backed up and be patiet. Right, bills are just sinking me to death and the help I have been getting is really starting to end fast. If they don't do something soon, they will really have a severe mental patient on their hands. Not that I am not already. Hope others will have more luck than me - oh and I sign up through a great attorney who handles all kinds of ss claims. Go figure.

Thanks for listening - Charmain

PS - I tried to log on to chat today at 11:25 no one was there - how long to the chats usually last? Do you still have them on Friday mornings?
