APF kicked off this media initiative February 21, 2006, in Charlotte, North Carolina. FOX News Rising aired an interview with local pain expert Dr. Gerald Aronoff and his patient, Sandy Honbaier (APF will post a video of this interview on http://www.painfoundation.org/ ). Dr. Aronoff is the Medical Director of the Carolina Pain Associates in Charlotte, where he cares for patients with chronic pain and provides practical suggestions about pain management. Ms. Honbaier, a former Miss Wheelchair America, is a disability rights advocate who has suffered from chronic pain for over twenty years. More media interviews are scheduled for the coming weeks.
The support of the pain community for this initiative has been wonderful. People affected by pain truly are the best advocates! Pain care professionals and people affected by pain are currently being recruited for media interviews in the cities of Springfield, IL, Augusta, GA, and Sandusky/West Cleveland, OH. Recruitment is to be expanded to include other cities in the future. Please contact Michelle Lonchar at mlonchar@painfoundation.org if you are interested in participating in this or future advocacy opportunities, which may involve speaking to your local media, community leaders and professionals, community groups, or legislators. Stay tuned to APF for updates about this initiative!
